Are We Professional...yet?

Tell me... Is it bad to be introducing students to the internet? using emails to facilitate communication? submitting students' drafts via email? What is more expensive - demanding a hard copy of the manuscript or requesting students to just email the draft to the professor concerned? I was told that printing costs five pesos per page and the average number of pages for a thesis is fifty. Using the internet is fifteen pesos per hour. It only takes 3 min or less to send an email.

Well, I post this issue because of my growing concern. We have been encouraged to introduce students to technology so they will not be left behind; but I was informed by my students that some professors criticize some teachers' use of the internet to submit reports/drafts/thesis. Are we really trying to move forward here?

Actually, I have a great respect for each individual and I also accept the fact that there are "different strokes for different folks". Maybe we should be watchful of what we say to others especially to students. It's wrong modelling to be badmouthing other teachers to students not to mention unprofessional especially if it comes from someone you have grown to respect.

First Week High

Whew! The first week was rather hectic - schedule fixes, meetings, new students,changing/dropping, etc. etc. But it went well I guess. I missed my students (Hope they missed me, too! LOL) and it was nice seeing everybody again. Actually, some were still in "vacationing mode" (me included) and still processing the fact that school has started. Hopefully next week everything will be stabilized and we could start putting on our "school shoes", roll our sleeves and shift gear.

Welcome to SY 2010 - 2011!

We're Done!

Yesterday, we completed our 5-day training on Web Development and I'm happy to announce that the long time dream of CapSU Burias of having a web site of its own will soon become a reality. Thanks to ischools! But it's still a work in progress and we're keeping our fingers crossed that this will push through the soonest time possible. Soon, CapSU Burias' Web presence will be felt and we are very excited with this prospect.
